Longyearbyen hat zwei Museen und auch das Svalbard Museum ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

Wir hatten das Glück genau passend zur Neueröffnung des Museums in Longyearbyen zu sein.
Das haben wir sehr gerne genutzt, um bei freiem Eintritt in den Genuss der einzigartigen Ausstellung zu kommen.

Vorrangig wird in diesem Museum die Geschichte Svalbards behandelt mit Kohlebergbau, Geologie, Tierwelt. Weitere spannende Themen sind die Zeiten des Walfangs und des zweiten Weltkriegs zweiter Weltkrieg (Spitzbergen spielte eine große Rolle, was die Wetterbeobachtung anging). Sogar eine Enigma Maschine der Wehrmacht hat das Museum hier zu zeigen.

Für mich besonders interessant war die Darstellung des Kohlenbergbaus, welcher hier auf Svalbard nicht nur durch die Kälte sehr schwer gewesen sein muss und ist. Die Darstellung vom Leben eines Jägers- und Fallenstellers auf Svalbard ist auch ein Highlight dieser Ausstellung.

Aber das soll es auch hier gewesen sein, was ich über die Ausstellung schreibe, denn es soll ja spannend bleiben für euch, wenn Ihr es selbst einmal besucht.

Prädikat „Wertvoll“ so ist mein Fazit über das Svalbard Museum.

Die Angestellten hier im Museum waren ebenso freundlich wie hilfsbereit. Ich kam nicht darum herum auch in diesem Souvenir Shop für mich ein Mitbringsel zu kaufen. Es lohnt sich genau zu schauen. Interessante Bücher über Svalbard und die Themen hier im Museum, ebenso schöne Accessoires und Kunsthandwerk gibt es hier zu erwerben.

Longyearbyen has two museums and the Svalbard Museum is definitely worth a visit.
We were lucky enough to be in Longyearbyen just in time for the reopening of the museum.

We were happy to take advantage of this to enjoy the unique exhibition with free entry.
This museum primarily deals with the history of Svalbard with coal mining, geology and wildlife.

Other exciting topics include the times of whaling and the Second World War
(Svalbard played a major role in weather observation).
The museum even has a Wehrmacht Enigma machine on display here.

What was particularly interesting to me was the depiction of coal mining, which must have been and is very difficult here on Svalbard, not only because of the cold.
The depiction of the life of a hunter and trapper on Svalbard is also a highlight of this exhibition.
But that’s what I’m writing about the exhibition, because I want it to remain exciting for you once you visit it yourself.

The rating “Valuable” is my conclusion about the Svalbard Museum.
The staff here at the museum were both friendly and helpful. I couldn’t avoid buying a souvenir for myself in this souvenir shop. It’s worth taking a closer look. Interesting books about Svalbard and the topics here in the museum, as well as beautiful accessories and handicrafts, can be purchased here.
